The Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (DWLLC) provides on-campus American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services for departments and service centers who have deaf or hard-of-hearing faculty or staff. This is a service our ASL interpreters offer in addition to their main role as interpreters for the faculty who teach in the ASL Program in the Division.

Eligibility

Any University of Iowa unit is eligible to request ASL interpretation services.

However, we are not the only University-preferred option for ASL interpreting services. Always consult the deaf or hard-of-hearing employee before reserving a Division ASL interpreter so the service can best fit their needs and language preferences. For other University-preferred options, see "Cost & Logistics" on this page.

Cost & Logistics

Our services are billed at $60/hr for business hours (M-F, 8 am - 5 pm) and $70/hr otherwise, with a one-hour minimum. Anything longer than one hour will require 2 interpreters. We do not bill for travel time. Cancellations within 48 hrs will not be refunded.

Hands Up Communication and Laura Amundson are other University-preferred vendors. We can connect you with these options if the consumer prefers.
